Title : The use of herbal extracts obtained from plants in ruminant mixed feeds and reducing the use of antibiotics with herbal extracts
Abstract:
The use of antibiotics in animals is a problem that has increased in recent years and caused microorganisms to become resistant to antibiotics as a result of unconscious use. Antibiotics used without an antibiogram are one of the main problems that cause degeneration in animals, especially in the liver and kidney, and prevent the physiological functions of parenchymal tissues. The use of herbal extracts instead of antibiotics in both metabolic diseases and preventive medicine in farm animals has come to the fore in recent years. Herbal extracts can be used effectively in livestock compound feeds or TMR. Silymarin, especially obtained from artichoke or milk thistle, is one of the most important herbal extracts used to prevent fatty liver during the transition period of cows and ketosis after birth. Because silymarin prevents metabolic diseases that occur in the liver of cows in the 1 month before and 1 month after birth and causes us to get more milk from cows. It accelerates uterine involution after birth. Thus, it reaches the seeding time in a shorter time. Another issue is mycotoxins, which are invisible to the naked eye but whose existence we suspect. Aflatoxin B1, Fumonisin, DON, ZON, T-2 toxins found in roughage or concentrated feed in TMR can cause hepatotoxicity, nephrotoxicity, widespread petechial bleeding in the intestines and hemorrhagic intestinal syndrome in animals. Mycotoxins are invisible to the naked eye and their effects appear over a long period of time. For this reason, we must use herbal extracts, Mannanoligosaccharides, Beta glucans and toxin binders together with TMR. Thymol and carvacrol, herbal extracts, also stand out with their digestive, anti-inflammatory and immune system strengthening aspects. Sulfoside and allicin, also found in garlic, are widely used in breast diseases and foot diseases in farm animals. Cinnamomum, which is also found in cinnamon, is one of the extracts that can be used as it causes the proliferation of beneficial microorganisms in the immune system and intestines. Thymoquinone found in black cumin is one of the extracts that is effective in the digestive system and immune system, as well as in the fight against parasites. Herbal extracts will completely replace antibiotics in the future. Herbal extracts will become indispensable additives both therapeutically and against diseases.
